Sprucing up for fall

18 Aug

Hoping to get things rolling again after some much needed rest here as summer draws to a close.  I was actually figuring it up today and so far I’ve spent almost 2 months away from home this summer.  Craziness.

Anyways, here’s to hoping we can start a small fire all over again.  We have new songs.  We have old songs.  We have a lot more to do before we call this Commerce thing complete.  Don’t you forget it.

Talk to you all real soon. – Matt

There and back again…

21 Jun

So we made it back home safe and sound after our first tour that included such lovely people as Big White Clouds and Amory Sivertson.  They were amazing folks to meet and talk to, not to mention getting to hear their music every night.

Along the way we had many equally frustrating and beautiful moments.  Most of which we’ve recapped over at Littlest Sounds.  Pretty soon we’ll post some more photos of all the experiences we encountered, but if you must know and you must know now, then head over to their site and check out all our trails, trials, and travels.

Until next time…. Matt

The East Coast is not Safe

10 May

So we’re heading out on the road again, but this time we’re not going at it alone.  Starting June 4-17, we’ll be hitting interstates, clubs, art spaces, houses, etc. with our Boston buds Big White Clouds and Amory Sivertson.  It is certain to be an amazing couple of weeks with lots of updates coming from us and our music blog sponsor Littlest Sounds.

Check out the shows section on our site to find a town near you that we’ll be playing.

New EP Now Available

19 Apr

Friends, today you are now able to go and download a couple new mixes of some of our songs, 2 brand new covers, and a remix by our dear Canadian friend, Germany Germany here.  Now here’s how it all came about.

Around the start of 2011 we went back to the same Nashville studio where we had recorded a Christmas song a year or so ago.  This time we entered down one guitar player in Tim, but still ready to try and record a couple of covers.  We tracked 2 of my Top 5 songs of all time, “A Long December” by Counting Crows and “When You Were Young” by The Killers.  I’m so excited about how they turned out and hope you will love them just as much.

So how did we end up with a remix?  Well, I guess I had approached Drew Harris of Germany Germany when I had started my new comp series Littlest Sounds about including one of his songs.  After chatting back and forth a while, he offered up his services to do a remix and I jumped all over it!  I sent him a few tracks and he decided on “The Same Time” thinking he could really do something amazing with it.  Words can’t describe how lovely I think it turned out.

So that’s what we’ve been up to the past few months.  We have a few random shows coming up fairly soon, and then in early June we’re heading out with a pretty killer band from Boston called Big White Clouds.  We’re currently booking some dates up and down the east coast, so maybe we’ll see you soon??!!  Hope you enjoy the songs.  Happy Listening.

Matt and the Commerce boys

a new beginning is upon us

24 Mar

Hello and welcome to our brand new site.

While it may seem like we’ve been awfully quiet these past few months, it doesn’t mean we haven’t been hard at work.  Our debut full-length The Things I Say vs. The Things I Mean was the #1 most added to CMJ’s Radio 200 in it’s first week of release and we reached as high as #41 on the CMJ Top 200.

You can check out our press section to read what some kind folks have been saying about us and our new record.  Plus right now we’re featured on Littlest Sounds’ March compilation with a ton of other really great bands.  So go over to littlestsounds.com and get a FREE download of our song “Ivory Buttons” and support independent music!
